Microchips That Mean the Difference Between Safety and Uncertainty
From the First Days of War to Today:
In the earliest days of the Ukraine war, as families fled and the sound of shelling echoed across the country, we knew we had to act quickly. Amid the chaos and mass abandonment of pets, rules for moving animals across borders were temporarily relaxed – but even then, a crucial requirement remained: microchips.
Back in March 2022, we shipped 700 microchips into Ukraine to support the mass evacuation of dogs and cats to safety. It was a lifeline in a time of desperation – and every chip we sent helped one more animal escape the horrors of war and find sanctuary beyond the border.
Now, more than two years on, that need has resurfaced – just as urgent, just as vital.
A New Frontline, a Familiar Call for Help
The region of Sumy is under constant threat. Shelling rains down daily, and fears of occupation are growing. Our long-time friends at Konotop shelter, just west of Sumy city and 80km from the Russian border, reached out to us with a plea: they urgently needed 100 microchips to begin preparing their dogs for possible evacuation, should the worst happen.
Their local veterinary clinic quoted $13 per dog, totalling $1300 – a significant sum for a shelter already stretched thin.
Your Support in Action: 100 Microchips, Dispatched Without Delay
Thanks to the ongoing support from our amazing community, we were able to respond immediately. We sent 100 microchips from our trusted supplier at trade prices, drastically reducing costs and ensuring the shelter could act fast.
This may seem like a small gesture – but in moments like this, it’s everything. It means that if evacuation becomes necessary, those dogs won’t be left behind. They’ll be ready, identifiable, and eligible to travel.
