298 Animals Sterilized in Just 6 Days

Stopping the Cycle of Suffering Before it Begins

Thanks to our sponsors, we organized a spay week in March 2025, together with our partner volunteers in the Odesa region.  In just 6 days a massive 298 animals were sterilized – a huge step in breaking the cycle of suffering before it begins!

🐾 205 female dogs, both stray and pet, were spayed through K9 Rescue International. These dogs were also vaccinated against rabies and tagged for safety.

🐾 93 additional animals (both cats and dogs) were spayed through Affordable Sterilization’s low-cost program, where guardians pay only the cost of consumables.  This allows pet owners to spay their animals when the full cost – typically 5 times higher – would otherwise be out of their reach.

💡 Why is this important? The real source of the stray animal crisis isn’t just strays reproducing on the streets – it’s unsterilized pet dogs and cats continuously giving birth. With no adequate shelter system, their offspring almost always end up on the streets. Yet, local governments (if they fund sterilization at all) only focus on strays, leaving pet owners without affordable options. This is why we focus on both.

🚨 The demand is overwhelming: for our budget of 205 free sterilization spots, over 500 people applied – a clear sign that communities want to help yet without access to affordable sterilization unwanted litters will continue to be born into hardship, and the impact of these campaigns will be lost.

🌟 A huge thank you to the veterinary heroes from the organization Affordable Sterilization for providing this dedicated service.  Their team travels to frontline towns, working in unimaginable conditions – even under shelling – to help strays.   Heartfelt thanks also to the tireless volunteers who caught and transported dogs, and to everyone who made this possible.

💰 The cost of this project? $5,025 USD – covered by our amazing K9 Rescue sponsors and made possible thanks to the organization Affordable Sterilization, who only charged us for the cost of consumables.

🐶 The impact? At least 3,500 puppies saved from being born into suffering in the first year alone, based on an average of six puppies per litter and two litters per year.

💙 That means just $1.44 saves a life from being born into a life of misery.

This is reality.
This is real impact.
This is how YOU can help end animal suffering in Ukraine.
