A Race Against Time

Rikki appeared suddenly looking like a living skeleton, then vanished for days. When our volunteer finally caught him, he was skin and bones, covered in fleas and ticks.

At the vet clinic, tests showed negative for heartworm and babesiosis – great news. But bloodwork revealed badly elevated liver values, likely from severe starvation and exhaustion.

He is now in foster with our volunteer, who is giving him medicines, injections, therapeutic hepatic food, with constant care and he will need ongoing vet checks and blood tests to monitor his progress.

Rikki is affectionate, eats well, and has normal stools – he has every chance to make a full recovery.
