Crypto donations can be private, similar to cash donations, but it depends on how you donate. Donations sent directly to our wallet addresses are fully private (we don’t see your personal details). Donations made via third-party platforms like CoinGate require billing information for their own AML regulatory compliance, so these are not completely anonymous. Donors who wish to receive updates from us can voluntarily provide contact information.

Cryptocurrency values fluctuate. Check real-time prices in dollars, pounds, or euros at CoinDesk coindesk.com/price. Our CoinGate portal and Kraken wallets accept donations as small as 0.00000001 of a crypto “coin,” making it accessible to all.

Yes, there are no legal restrictions on accepting cryptocurrency payments in the USA, UK, Ireland, or the EU. Please check the laws in your individual country for up-to-date guidance.

In the UK, HMRC have issued guidance to companies on how to handle, record and tax crypto transactions, which K9 Rescue comply with. See HMRC Cryptoassets Manual for details.

In the USA, the IRS have also issued guidance on reporting, taxing, and handling crypto transactions, including treating donations as noncash contributions. Key resources include the IRS Digital Assets page and FAQs on Virtual Currency.

Receipts depend on your donation method – they’re automated and tax-compliant via CoinGate, yet limited for direct wallet sends to prioritize privacy and simplicity:
Via CoinGate: Yes! As part of the process, you’ll provide an email address and receive an instant digital receipt confirming the cryptocurrency amount, its fair market value (in GBP, EUR or USD at receipt time), and the transaction ID.
Direct to our Kraken Wallets or Trust Wallet: No automatic receipt, as these donations are anonymous by design (no email collection). For tax purposes, you can self-generate proof using the public blockchain by copying the transaction hash (TXID) after sending and then verifying it on blockchain explorers such as Blockchain.com (Bitcoin), Etherscan (Ethereum), or Dogechain (Dogecoin).  Our wallet addresses are publicly listed on our Wallet Addresses section, so matching the TXID to our address substantiates the donation.

If you’d like a formal receipt for larger gifts, email us after sending, including your TXID – we’ll verify and issue one within 5 business days within our capacity.

Once received, your donation is securely processed through our crypto donation platforms (CoinGate) or held in our Kraken wallets. We then convert it to fiat to fund our charitable activities. All transactions are recorded on the blockchain for blockchain donation tracking, ensuring transparency.

Yes, our CoinGate portal and Kraken wallets and Trust Wallet, support donations as small as 0.00000001 of a coin (e.g., Bitcoin, Ethereum, Dogecoin), allowing you to donate Bitcoin to charity or other cryptos in any amount you choose.

Via CoinGate, donations typically process within minutes, depending on blockchain confirmation times (e.g., Bitcoin ~10 minutes, Ethereum ~15 seconds). Direct wallet donations to Kraken addresses may take longer (up to 1-2 hours) based on network congestion.

Unfortunately, cryptocurrency transactions are irreversible due to the blockchain’s design. If you send to an incorrect address, recovery is unlikely. Always double-check our published Wallet Addresses Section or use CoinGate’s guided process to avoid errors.

Unlike other crypto donation platforms (which typically charge a 5% fee) CoinGate only charge a small processing fee (typically 1%), which we absorb to support your donation.
Direct wallet donations to Kraken or to our Trust Wallet incur only network fees.

No, crypto donations are final once confirmed on the blockchain. We encourage donors to review amounts before sending. As a nonprofit, we don’t offer refunds, but we’re happy to discuss your reasons for requesting a change – Email us. We’ll explore any possible support options within our capacity.

The crypto and bitcoin donation tax benefits depend on your location. Here’s a summary for the UK and USA – donating directly often provides tax deductions for crypto donations by exempting capital gains tax on appreciated assets:
United Kingdom:
• Direct Donation of Crypto: Donating appreciated crypto (e.g., Bitcoin) to our UK-registered charity exempts Capital Gains Tax (CGT). The charity receives the full market value, and you may be able to claim a tax deduction for the crypto donation value. Note: Gift Aid does not apply to crypto donations. Learn more at HMRC Cryptoassets and CGT Tax.
• Selling Crypto First: If you sell crypto and donate the cash, you’ll pay CGT on the gain (currently 24% for higher/additional rate taxpayers on gains above £3,000 in 2025/26), reducing the net amount. Gift Aid may then apply to the cash donation, adding 25% from HMRC to the charity.
United States:
• Direct Donation of Crypto: Donating appreciated crypto exempts capital gains taxes, and the charity receives the full fair market value (e.g., $100k). However, since we are a UK charity without IRS 501(c)(3) status, US donors cannot claim a tax deduction directly to us. See IRS Publication 526 for general rules.
• Selling Crypto First: Selling crypto triggers capital gains tax (currently up to 23.8% federal + state rates), reducing the net donation (e.g., $72,310 after ~$27,690 tax on a $100k value). No additional tax benefit applies as we are a UK charity without IRS 501(c)(3) status.
