As many of you know, we’ve stood by Olga, a brave and tireless lone rescuer in the frontline city of Kramatorsk, since she reached out to us, just under a year ago. Every month, we provide food so she can feed the countless stray dogs and cats who rely on her in a city scarred by conflict.

Olga does all she can – not just feeding, but also catching and sterilizing as many strays as possible. But some dogs are simply too frightened, too feral to be caught. And this year, that heartbreakingly resulted in two unspayed females giving birth – a total of 11 vulnerable puppies now born into a war zone.

A Threat That’s All Too Real

Olga is terrified for them. She’s seen it before – in her very own neighbourhood. Every year, puppies born on the streets are poisoned by people who view them as nothing more than a nuisance. No one is held accountable. No one speaks up for them – except Olga.

Those of you who follow us on social media will have seen her feeding these pups with the food your donations provide. They’re alive today because of her – but for how long?

A Temporary Refuge in a City Under Threat

With shelters across Ukraine full to bursting, there are few options. But together with our friends at Konotop shelter, we’ve arranged a lifeline: the puppies will be transferred to Konotop – temporarily –  where they will be cared for, and prepared for a future in safe, loving homes.

It’s not ideal. Konotop, like much of the Sumy region, is under threat. But with shelters across Ukraine overcrowded and overwhelmed, it’s the only available option – and it’s one step closer to safety than a street in Kramatorsk.

They Need a New Enclosure – and We Need Your Help

To take the puppies in, Konotop needs to build another enclosure, as they’re already at full capacity. The cost to build it is $1200 – that’s just $109 per pup to give them the safe space they need while we find them permanent homes.
